OXIDATIVE STRESS

Dr. Devanshu Ladla BHMS, MD (Hom.)

Introduction:

Oxidative stress is an imbalance between free radical and antioxidant in your body.

Free radical are oxygen containing molecular with an uneven number of electron. This uneven number of electron allows them to easily react with other molecular free radical can cause large chain chemical reaction in your body because they react so easily with other molecules. These reaction are called oxidation, they can beneficial or harmful.

Antioxidants:

These are the molecular that can donate an electron to a free radical without making themselves unstable. This causes the free radical to stabilize and become less reactive.

Effect of oxidant stress on the body;

  • When function properly, free radical can help fight off pathogens.
  • When there are more free radical present than can be kept in balance by antioxidant.
  • Free radical can start doing damage to fatty tissue , DNA and Protein
  • Protein, lipid, and DNA make up a large part of your body, so damage can lead to a disease.
  • Diabetes .Osteosclerosis, Inflammatory condition , high blood pressure , heart disease, Neurodegenerative disease such as Parkinson’s and alzlzhemiers

What are the risk factors?

  • Every one produce some free radical naturally in their body through processes like exercise or inflammation, its normal from environment.
  • Ozone , pesticide and cleaners, cigarette smoking , radiation , pollution
  • A diet high in sugar, fat and alcohol.

Managing and preventive oxidative stress:

  • It’s impossible to completely avoid free radical exposure and oxidative stress.
  • The main thing you can do is to increase your level of antioxidants and decrease your formation of free radicals.
  • You have obtaining enough antioxidant in your diet (Fruits and vegetables)
  • Berries, cherries, citric fruits, dark leafy greens, broccoli, carrots, tomatoes, olive.
  • Fish and nuts : Vat C: green tea, onion, cinnamon        Vat E: Turmeric, Melatonin, Garlic

Healthy Lifestyle:

Avoid overeating.

A regular moderate exercise routine – lifespan, aging effect, cancer

Don’t smoke

Use caution with chemical – cleaning, avoiding unnecessary radiation exposure, and pesticide food.

Be environmentally conscious.

Alcohol intake avoid

Sleep proper
